of a new partnership
between the News and NAHJ
Our community is changing, and we want to reflect those changes in our coverage and in the diversity of our staff.
That's why we at the News have adopted the rallying cry of Cesar Chavez, the renowned Hispanic leader, as the name for a new Scripps-sponsored initiative we have launched with the National Association of Hispanic Journalists.
Our goal is to improve coverage of the region's rapidly growing Hispanic community, and to increase the number of Hispanic journalists on our staff.
Colorado's Hispanic population nearly doubled in 10 years, according to the 2000 Census, from 424,302 to 735,601. Hispanics now make up 17% of the state's population, and the growth is expected to continue.
Our challenge is to produce a newspaper that meets these new readers' needs as well as the needs of our entire diverse audience.
