He served in the Army. He was a machinist and accountant. -VALERIE LYNN BURCH, 55, of Boulder died Jan. 1. Services were Jan. 4. Mrs. Burch was born in Leavenworth, Kan., on Oct. 15, 1945. She married Martin Schmoldt. She worked for Continental Airlines and Career Track. Survivors include son Martin Schmoldt of Northglenn; parents Earl and Mildred of Fort Collins; brothers Michael of Loveland, Kim of Englewood; two grandchildren.

-FLORENCE M. CAREY, 85 of Denver died Dec. 30 in Aurora. Services were Jan. 4, with burial at Hampden Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Carey was born in Mangum, Okla., on Aug. 4, 1915. She married Herbert Carey. She worked in sales. Survivors include daughter Patricia Kholhouse of Illinois; sister Clessie Penna of Aurora; six grandchildren.

-ROY CLARK, 95, of Denver died Dec. 5 in Lakewood. Mr. Clark was born in David City, Neb., on Oct. 3, 1905. He married Maravene Phillips, 1940. He was a veteran of the armed forces. He was a statistician. Survivors include daughters Patricia Larkins of Arvada, Pamela Yerger of Arizona; four grandchildren.

-FERN FOSTER COLBURN, 96, of Denver died Dec. 13. Services were Dec. 16. Mrs. Colburn was born in Henefer, Utah, on Nov. 9, 1904. She married George Colburn, 1928. She was a member of PEO and was involved in a number of community service organizations. Survivors include Joyce Barnes of Utah, Frank of Oklahoma; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

-ARTHUR L. FAULKNER, 77, of Las Vegas, Nev., formerly of Denver died Dec. 27. Services were Jan. 3, with burial at Fort Logan National Cemetery. Mr. Faulkner was born in Denver on July 3, 1923. He married Dorothy Bonney, 2000. He served in the Navy during World War II. He was a floor and wall installer for American Flooring for 30 years. Survivors include his wife; brothers Herbert of Denver, Clarence of California.

-WILLIAM R. FLEMING, 52, of Pueblo died Dec. 29. Mr. Fleming was born in Boulder on Jan. 24, 1948. Survivors include mother Margaret of Denver; father William of California; brothers Robert of Denver, Steven of Hotchkins.

-THOMAS J. HEARD, 82, of Denver died Jan. 1. Services will be May 30 at Arlington National Cemetery. Mr. Heard was born in Texas on March 18, 1918. He served as a captain in the Army Air Forces during World War II. He was retired. Survivors include two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

-DAWN H. LEAVITT, 81, of Littleton died Jan. 1. Services were Jan. 8, with burial at Fort Logan National Cemetery. Mrs. Leavitt was born in Salt Lake City on Sept. 24, 1919. She married John Leavitt, 1937. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Survivors include her husband; daughters Diane of Littleton, Bonnie Lochner of Utah; son John of Colorado Springs; six grandchildren.

-MURRAY MARKS, 77, of Salida died Jan. 1. Services were Jan. 6. Mr. Marks was born in Leipzig, Germany, on Nov. 11, 1923. He married Henna Marks, then Adrienne Marks. He was a bioengineer who developed technology for heart valves and was a teacher. Survivors include his wife; sons Claude and Ron of California; daughter Bebe of New Mexico; stepson Steven Abelman of Denver; stepdaughter Robin Leibach of Illinois; three grandchildren; five step-grandchildren.

-BETTYE McCROSKEY, 75, of Denver died Jan. 3. Services were Jan. 6. Mrs. McCroskey was born in Dallas on Aug. 17, 1925. She married Jack McCroskey. She was a social worker for the Colorado Department of Social Services. Survivors include her husband; son Tom of Denver; daughter Jacquelyn of California; three grandchildren; a great-grandchild.

-ALICE DOVE MILLER, 80, of Aurora died Dec. 31. Services will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, at Horan & McConaty Funeral Home, 3201 S. Parker Road. She was born in Grundy Center, Iowa, on July 27, 1920. She was an occupational therapist in Utah and owned a children's clothing store in Denver. Survivors include sisters Dorothy Winslow and Celestine Persinger; brother Jon Miller, all of Iowa.

-DAMIEN MONTOYA, 93, of Commerce City died Nov. 30. Services were Dec. 6, with burial at Fairview Cemetery. Mr. Montoya was born in Lucero, N.M., on Nov. 22, 1907. He married Maclovia Lujan. He was a hospital orderly at Colorado General Hospital, now University Hospital. He was a member of Our Lady Mother of the Church. Survivors include daughters Lillian Esquibel, Mary Moore, Erlinda Niave and Mellie, all of Commerce City, Dora of Wyoming, Zelmira Rivera of New Mexico; sons William of Commerce City, Joel of Frederick; 29 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren.

-JOHN E. PENN, 86, of Denver died Dec. 11. Services were Dec. 27. Mr. Penn was born in Kremmling on Oct. 13, 1914. He married Wilma Buzbee, 1940. He served in the Navy during World War II. He was a mechanic/foreman. He was a member of Mile Hi Church of Religious Science. Survivors include his wife; son J. Roger of Oregon; daughter Patricia of Nevada; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

-MARGARET L. PLUCKHAN, 75, of Denver died Dec. 31. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, at Augustana Lutheran Church, 5000 E. Alameda Ave. Miss Pluckhan was born in Watertown, Wis., on Nov. 9, 1925. She was a registered nurse and held teaching positions at University of Colorado School of Nursing and Wichita State University. She worked for Fort Morgan Mental Health Center and Colorado State Department of Health. Survivors include sister Lois of Wisconsin; brother Jack of Georgia.

-CARL ALBERT SCHAEFER, 79, of Arvada died Jan. 1 in Denver. Services were Jan. 5, with burial at Mount Olivet Cemetery. Mr. Schaefer was born in Denver on Oct. 16, 1921. He married Mary Catherine Clark, 1946. He served in the Army during World War II. He was a silversmith. He was a member of the Lakewood Westernaires Youth Group. Survivors include his wife; daughters Mary D'Argo of Westminster, Debbie Metzler of Kiowa; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.

-CASSIE J. SEXTON, of Westminster died Dec. 25. Services were Jan. 2, with burial at Hampden Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Sexton was born Cassie Frogge in Campbellsville, Ky. She married Roy Cooper. She was a dry cleaner supervisor. Survivors include a grandchild.

-DARLENE J. SMITH, 64, of Arvada died Dec. 29 in Littleton. Services were Jan. 3. Mrs. Smith was born in Denver on Sept. 14, 1936. She married in 1956. She worked for Ideal Basic Industries in the accounting department which later became Ideal/Holnam. She was a member of the American Diabetes Association of Colorado and Alliance of Professional Women and a volunteer to Friends for Juvenile Diabetes. Survivors include son Patrick of Parker; daughter Vana Tealer of Highlands Ranch; sister Marilyn Cook of Denver; four grandchildren.

-LOUIE H. TENORIO, 59, of Tucson, formerly of Denver died Dec. 7. Services were Jan. 8. Mr. Tenorio was born in Denver on Sept. 12, 1941. Survivors include daughter Leah; stepfather Richard Tafoya Sr.; brothers Manuel Jr., John, Richard Tafoya Jr., Clarence Tafoya; sisters Betty Trujillo, Dorothy Cervantes, Dolores, Rita Cordova.

-CHARLES G. TRUZINSKI, 66, of Englewood died Dec. 23. Services were Dec. 27. Mr. Truzinski was born in St. Cloud, Minn., on Nov. 22, 1934. He married Patricia Swanson, 1957. He served in the Army. He was a businessman. He was a member of Rotary Club of Aurora, Aurora Chamber of Commerce, and board member of Eastern Railroad. -SHIRLEY J. WARD-SHIELDS, 63, of Aurora died Dec. 28. Services were Jan. 2, with burial at Crown Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Ward-Shields was born in Golden on May 11, 1937. She married Thomas Shields, 1990. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Jolly Joey's Clown Club, Salvation Army, Jefferson County Mental Health.
