POTSDAM, Germany -- Prosecutors on Wednesday were considering attempted murder charges against a 16-year-old girl for allegedly planning a bloodbath at her school on the anniversary of the Columbine High School shootings.
The girl, from Waldsieversdorf near Berlin, was arrested Tuesday. Authorities did not release her identity.
According to authorities, she was planning to use semi-automatic weapons and hand grenades in an attack planned for April 20, the anniversary of the shootings in Littleton, Colo. Twelve students and a teacher were shot to death in that attack before the two gunmen killed themselves.
A search of the girl's home revealed weapons catalogs and a farewell letter, authorities said.
Two students tipped off school officials to the planned attack on Monday and police were then notified, said school director Rita Lange.
The student first came to the school in August last year, and school officials said they didn't know of a possible motive for the planned attack.
Lange said the school would offer meetings between students, teachers, parents and psychologists.
Prosecutor Petra Marx said the girl was being held in prison and would face an attempted murder indictment if further investigation confirms authorities' suspicions.
